Rihanna – Diamond

Rihanna Navy up in here! For all you who don't know, Rihanna calls her fans 'Rihanna Navy' and yes I am one of them! Rihanna's 6th UK number one as a lead artist, pushed Gangnam Style by South Korean rapper, Psy to number 2! The beat is ever present as Rihanna sings about her special bot. On the chorus she muses, "So shine bright tonight, you and I/ We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky/ Eye to eye, so alive/ We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky." This song is sure to leave you with a great feeling!

212 – Azealia Banks ft. Lazy J

The catchy beat of the 212 peaked in the European charts making it one of the top hits during its release. Banks bewilders listeners through the combination of vulgar lyrics and catchy beats. She proves her versatility as a singer with this track and has attracted a posse with her blatant disregard of lyrical censoring. Banks’ use of profanity is dismissed by her talent to rap and sing which makes it a song that one loves to hate! This song is sure to get you up in clubs, if not, it is sure to cause some controversy!

Chris Brown - Fortune

Here comes another personal favourite album of the year. One of the tracks ‘Turn up the music’ inspired this blog’s name and it is sure to get you on your feet. Years – Alesso (featuring. Matthew Koma)

Previously unheard of in the music industry until mid-2011, newcomer Alesso has found fame providing remixes for some of the biggest names of all that is house music. Spreading his work over Beatport and quickly gaining a cult following; Alesso finally got his big break after creating the monster hit that is ‘Pressure’ by Nadia Ali in 2011. Finally with his own original; ‘Years’ featuring Matthew Koma, Alesso is well on his way to becoming the next ‘Avicii’.

Lupe Fiasco – Bitch Bad

If words are a rapper’s most powerful tool, then Lupe is doing everything right. This song is a great example of why Lupe has got to be my favourite rapper. Lupe’s sole purpose is to start a social dialogue. This music video tells all, in a conversation that has deep meaning and purpose. Watch this video as he challenges our perception of the word ‘bitch’.

‘bitch bad, women good, lady better’..

Can’t Get Better Than This – Parachute Youth

Whilst I must admit I have never heard of Parachute Youth before, I can concede that their track, ‘Can’t Get Better Than This’ is a breath of fresh air for the progressive house scene. Utilizing an absolutely unique drop to provide a background for an extremely catchy beat, Parachute Youth turns conventional music production upside down. Unfortunately, ‘Can’t Get Better Than This’ was released a while back in 2011 and has only reached our shores now. Hopefully their future is bigger and brighter, it can only get better from here

Kanye West Presents, G.O.O.D Music ‘Cruel Summer’

This is personally one of my favourite albums this year! And why wouldn’t it be when there are artists from Kanye, to Big Sean, Kid Cudi, R. Kelly, Jay Z, John Legend, Teyana Taylor, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Common, The Dream, Ma$e, and Dj Khaled all in one album. If good music, and swagged out beats, with killer verses makes you happy then this is definitely worth a listen because it really is GOOD music. Check out my favourite track from the album ‘Cold’. It is the unique beat, Kanye’s amazing rap and girlfriend Kim Kardashian appearing in the video that makes it my favourite. Kanye all day, everyday!

Kidz With Gunz – Skeme ft ScHoolboy Q

Skeme and ScHoolboy Q form a deadly duo. Separately, Skeme and ScHoolboy Q both create songs that are not known to many but are extremely powerful. These underrated artists have come together to produce an amazing track, the beats drop hard but the lyrics are potent. The word play utilised by both of these artists demonstrates their versatility as they coincide with the wicked synth laced beats produced by THC. This song will be featured in Skeme’s album, Alive and Living, and it will be the start of something beautiful.

Sweet Nothing – Calvin Harris (featuring. Florence Welch)

Anyone who has head ‘Sweet Nothing’ is going to note similarities to Mr. Harris’ earlier work, prior to becoming one of the biggest names in the EDM scene today. Using hard hitting beats reminiscent of ‘Ready For the Weekend’ and ‘Acceptable in the 80’s’, Harris manages to bring out the best in Ms. Welch’s amazing vocal range. Guaranteed to be a big hit in the coming months, ‘Sweet Nothing’ is going to be featured in Harris’ next album ’18 Months’ on October 29, 2012.

Wiz Khalifa - "Remember Me" (Feat. The Weeknd)

The combination of The Weeknd’s delicate vocals along with Wiz Khalifa’s ingenious lyrics accumulates what is to be the most eccentric track of the year. This song is yet to be released on Khalifa’s new album, O.N.I.F.C, and is announced to be The Weeknd’s first ever single to be released with a new record company. Producers of this song, Dpat and Illangelo who are only know on social media such as, Tumblr and SoundCloud, have used this song as an opportunity to be recognised and to break out into the hiphop scene where they thank both Wiz Khalifa and The Weeknd

J. Cole & Major Lazer - "Get Free ColeWorld"

This never-before-heard collaboration made with Major Lazer, defines the intricacy of J Cole. This song was released one year after his chart topping album, ColeWorld: The Sideline Story. The chilled beats along with the smooth vocals of J Cole proves to be another hit for him as he ventures out into a world, different to Cole World.
